It is heartening that the Asiatic lion count has touched the 523 mark for the first time in five years ("Lion's roar grows louder in Gir", May 11).

That novel methods such as "direct sighting", GPS, geo-reference and videography were put to good use is welcome. The role of the courts and the Indian Railways in the prevention of lion deaths needs special mention. The government must now leave no stone unturned to protect the Asiatic lion especially with strict anti-poaching measures.
